As alternative and "folkloric" medicines become more popular, many people are looking to take even further control of
their health by filling empty capsules to create their own supplements. By choosing to do this, you can save money, reduce excess packaging waste, PLUS control exactly what goes into your capsule, right down to the capsule itself.
Herbs commonly used for health supplements such as ginseng, turmeric, cinnamon, garlic, green tea, goldenseal, etc., can readily be purchased in bulk at your local natural grocery or online. When filling your own capsules, we recommend starting out with supplements that allow for some leeway in the dosage, as your measurements may not always be accurate. A kitchen scale is a a good start, and our Capsule Size chart will give you an idea of the typical volume for each size capsule.
Making your own capsules is not hard. If you are only taking a few types of supplements per day, you can likely knock out several months' worth in just one evening. Take a look at Lena Zegher's video showing how quickly she can fill her turmeric capsules by hand. (Lena is a blogger we follow at supplementsos.com.)
While filling by hand can be relaxing for some, if you feel you are not dexterous enough or just want to fill more capsules more quickly, a manual capsule filler, such as the CN-100 shown here is an option to consider. We are very excited to soon be adding these capsule fillers to our inventory!
